"Correlated Physics in Moiré Materials"

Abstract: Moiré materials have captured significant attention in recent years as a highly tunable platform to study strong correlation phenomena. In this talk, I discuss three instances where transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) moiré systems offer certain fresh perspectives on some old problems. I will first focus on the magnetic physics within the extended Hubbard model on a triangular lattice at half-filling and develop the appropriate low-energy spin models for TMD moiré systems, emphasizing the importance of nonlocal interactions. I will then introduce a trilayer moiré structure that couples local moments to conduction electrons and explore the resulting heavy-fermion physics at the mean-field level. Finally, I will turn to the physics of current-induced magnetization reversal in AB-stacked MoTe2/WSe2 bilayers, and discuss possible ground states for the quantum anomalous Hall phase in the same system.
