"Antimatter matters: PET research at the University of Texas at Austin"

Abstract: The image guidance in proton radiation therapy to achieve the in-vivo proton range verification is one of the most underinvested aspects of radiation cancer treatment despite that it may dramatically enhance the treatment accuracy and lower the exposure's toxicity to improve the entire outcome of cancer therapy. In this talk we will describe the spinoff of our research in experimental particle physics that addressed some of these issues. The U-of-Texas-Portugal consortium focuses on building a time-of-flight positron-emission-tomography (PET) scanner to be used in pre-clinical studies for proton therapy at MD Anderson Proton Center in Houston. We will also discuss some other related ideas towards improving
