Prof. Karol Lang, UT-Austin

"What Physics Can do to Fight Cancer!"

Abstract: Image-guidance in proton radiation therapy to achieve the in-vivo proton range verification is one of the most underinvested aspects of radiation cancer treatment despite that it may dramatically enhance the treatment accuracy and lower the exposure's toxicity to improve the entire outcome of cancer therapy. In this talk, we will describe the effort of our UofTexas-Portugal consortium on building a time-of-flight positron-emission-tomography (PET) scanner to be used in pre-clinical studies for proton therapy at MD Anderson Proton Center in Houston. We will also discuss some other related ideas towards improving and expanding the use of PET detectors, including the total body imaging.

[This is in person, no simultaneous Zoom.]

The Pizza Seminar serves to introduce students and faculty to current research interests of current faculty and postdocs.
