Abstract: This talk will address the current state of our knowledge of the average surface temperature of the earth, is it increasing, if so what are the drivers, and is there a “human fingerprint?” If so, the long term (greater than a century) state of the earth’s climate will be one not previously experienced by human civilization. The response of cities may be the most effect channel for individuals to address the prospects of climate change. Their targets and progress will be examined for two examples: San Francisco and Austin.
