"From Dirac equation to topological materials and quantum transport"

Coffee and cookies will be served at 3:45pm in RLM 4.102

Abstract: The direct conversion between heat and electricity based on thermoelectric properties of solids can have wide-ranging applications. In this talk, I will describe novel thermoelectric effect associated with Landau level physics in a magnetic field. I will demonstrate an unbounded increase of the thermopower with the field in three-dimensional Dirac/Weyl semimetals, a parametrically large thermopower at low temperature in quantum Hall systems, and thermoelectric transport via charge-neutral dipoles in interacting quantum Hall liquids. These Hall-type thermoelectric phenomena have a dissipationless nature and are electron-hole symmetric.

Location: The John A. Wheeler Lecture Hall (RLM 4.102)
