"Into the Bulk: A Covariant Approach"

2:00pm, RLM 15.216B (Please note new room this semester.)

Abstract: I will give a general, covariant definition of the depth of the bulk spacetime in AdS/CFT. Using the recently proposed "lightcone cut" formalism, I will show how to determine the depth between two bulk points from the poles of correlators in the dual field theory. This new definition matches expectations in pure AdS and in static AdS black holes with isotropic spatial slices, where a well-defined holographic coordinate exists; this way of qualifying bulk depth makes contact with coarse-graining over both large distances and long time scales.
