"Deterministic Doping of a Cold Rubidium Cloud with Single Cesium Atoms"

2:00pm, RLM 11.204

Abstract: Our lab investigates and engineers the interaction between individual or many-body quantum systems using external fields. In my talk I will give an overview of the ongoing research in our three experiments, focussing on the Boson-Boson experiment, where we dope an ultracold cloud of Rubidium-87 (Rb) with single or few neutral Cesium-133 (Cs) atoms.

I will introduce the methods to tailor our quantum system, that allow us to prepare atomic ensembles at ultracold temperatures and to manipulate the internal and external degrees of freedom. I will show the possible application of those tools for the quantum simulation of Fröhlich-type polarons, and, in addition present previous results on the thermalization of Cs coupled to the ultracold Rb bath, and the dissipative diffusion dynamics of single Cs atoms trapped in an optical one dimensional lattice.
