"Droplet-based optofluidic cavities"
1:00pm, RLM 11.204
Abstract: Liquid droplets can serve as optical cavities with optical resonances confined to small volumes near the droplet rim. The resultant high electric field intensities can mediate strong coupling between light and atoms, molecules, or quantum dots in the droplet liquid. This talk will describe schemes that can be used to tune the emission spectra of droplet microcavities by controlling the size, shape, or composition of the droplets. It will be shown that droplet-based optofluidic cavities represent a versatile plaCorm for on-chip applications in chemical and biological analysis and sensing.
