coaching sessions

Coaching is an important general service for all undergraduate courses; students and faculty depend on this service. TAs are often assigned to coach as part of their duties. The coaching facility is in the hall on the 5th level of PMA, and coaching takes place Monday through Thursday, 9:00-6:00 and Friday 9:00 to noon.  Coaching begins the first week of classes and goes through to the last class day.

Coaching sessions are designed to help undergrads with lectures, labs, texts or homework. Coaches will not solve your problems but provide you with direction towards finding solutions.

LEARNING ASSISTANTS

LAs are like peer coaches! LAs are students who have succeeded in a particular Physics class and are eager to share their knowledge and strategies with other students. LAs are not expected to be experts in the course material, but they are expected to have a deep motivation to help peers learn and build a sense of community in the classroom. You do not have to be a Physics major to work as a Physics LA.

Recitation Courses

These classes are offered as companion classes to certain introductory Physics classes. Recitation courses provide students the chance to get better at what they are doing in class, and professors often choose to go into homework in greater detail. These are not regularly scheduled courses and are up to the professors as to whether or not to schedule one.

Design Class for Sophomores and Juniors

The task is to come up with an experiment that can be put on a satellite that will be launched into space.

Money, Money, Money

Also known as scholarships. Nearly 25% of upper-division Physics majors receive financial aid from the department. For more information, see the CNS Scholarship page.
